Project Title: Reducing US Racial/Ethnic-Related Health Disparities with the Affordable Care Act: Is Health Reform Enough?

Rosa Avila earned her M.S.P.H. from the University of South Florida and B.A. from Whitman College.  She was a survey researcher at the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), working on national surveys related to children’s health, and was a research associate at the Child and Adolescents Health Measurements Initiative, where she focused on health information dissemination.  She has research interests in family and community health issues, but more specifically among minority and vulnerable populations.  Rosa was an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) T32 trainee from 2012-2014, a Summer Intramural Fellow at AHRQ in 2013 and 2014, and in 2015 was awarded a National Institutes of Health F31 Diversity Fellowship Grant for her project "Reducing Child Health Disparities with Health Policies: Is Health Reform Enough?" As a 2016 NCHS/AcademyHealth Health Policy Fellow, she aims to expand her study to understand how the Affordable Care Act will impact health and health care disparities among non-elderly adults.
