Before I dive into our regular advocacy update, I want to mention one of the biggest legislative developments over the past 48 hours: the House of Representatives’ passage of the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The legislation will now move to the Senate, where Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the chamber will not vote on the bill until legislators have seen the scoring from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). As a quick reminder, AcademyHealth does not comment on health policy legislation. Our advocacy and policy positions center exclusively on science policy, or the policies affecting the conduct of science and the scientific enterprise. It is our job to make sure that health services research is represented in federal policy, when appropriate, that health services research is federally funded, and that our researchers are equipped with the tools they need to do their work, including access to timely, high-quality data and the freedom to publish.
