Linda Cummings, Ph.D., previously served as vice president for research at America’s Essential Hospitals, where she directed the Essential Hospitals Institute. Her work included developing and implementing a research agenda for America’s Essential Hospitals that focused on system redesign, high performing health care organizations, health care quality and performance improvement, financial and operational characteristics of safety net hospitals, health disparities, and health reform implementation.
Dr. Cummings served as an Innovator-in-Residence from January 2015 through March 2015. During her residency, Dr. Cummings focused on identifying practical guidance for how health services and policy researchers can work more effectively with safety net providers in introducing or testing innovations in the organization and delivery of care. The purpose of this work was to help researchers more effectively engage with safety net delivery systems to produce research that improves care for vulnerable or underserved patients. Dr. Cummings' findings will be featured in a forthcoming publication from AcademyHealth.
