Building upon on previous efforts to address low-value care, AcademyHealth and the Donaghue Foundation announce a new focus for our joint efforts to achieve high-value, equitable care. This new focus is informed by both the members of our previous research community on low-value care as well as the broader health care landscape and current social context.

"We are so pleased to continue our partnership with the Donaghue Foundation and pivot our attention to high-value, equitable care,” said Dr. Lisa Simpson, president and CEO of AcademyHealth. “As health care costs continue to rise and health disparities persist, this work is more urgent than ever.”

To address these deeply rooted and pervasive challenges, AcademyHealth and the Donaghue Foundation are pleased to begin the work of building up a strong evidence base in this area that will be grounded in the needs of impacted communities.

As part of this work, AcademyHealth is working with a broad range of stakeholders to:

  • frame and define care that is both high-value and equitable, including identifying relevant traits and metrics;
  • generate and disseminate a research agenda aimed at improving health care value and equity;
  • foster an inclusive and diverse community of researchers and health care leaders focused achieving high-value, equitable care.

“As our health systems begin to recover from the still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have a fantastic opportunity to change the narrative and deliver care that is both high-value and equitable at its core,” said Stacy Cloud, president of the Donaghue Foundation. “We look forward to working with stakeholders from across the system to explore approaches to support delivery of high-value, equitable care and ultimately improve health outcomes for all.”
