Misinformation is a threat to health care delivery and health research, and mistrust is a key driver of susceptibility to accepting and acting on misinformation. Through an initiative focused on trust issues within health care, AcademyHealth and the ABIM Foundation are learning important lessons that can help combat misinformation by building trust.

As outlined in a recent Health Affairs Forefront article, Richard Baron, President and CEO of the ABIM Foundation and Lisa Simpson, President and CEO of AcademyHealth explore emerging methods to build trust in health care and health care research by:

  • Diversifying the health care and research workforce;
  • Centering community voices;
  • Increasing education and engagement with patients and physicians; and
  • Prioritizing and advancing transparency at the institutional level.
