AcademyHealth is pleased to announce that Breana Turner, Ph.D., M.P.H., has been named a 2026 Civic Science Fellow supporting our organization with our science communication and outreach efforts. The Civic Science Fellows program, supported by the Rita Allen Foundation, Doris Duke Foundation, and a broad network of funding and host partners, brings together leaders from across disciplines, including scientists, journalists, communicators, community practitioners, and public-interest organizations, to advance a future where science is shaped by and responsive to the communities it serves.

As part of the fellowship, Breana will build an Evidence Creator Pipeline focused on identifying, partnering with, and supporting social media creators and trusted community communicators who can carry health policy evidence into the diverse audiences and civic conversations that traditional scientific institutions often struggle to reach. A translational scientist, public health researcher, science communicator, and founder of Becoming HealthyHer, Breana's work centers health equity, public engagement, and making scientific evidence more accessible and actionable.

The Civic Science Fellows program serves as a laboratory for developing evidence-based, human-centered approaches to strengthening relationships between science and society. AcademyHealth is proud to support Breana's work to expand the reach and impact of health policy evidence through civic science.
