In a recent survey, health services and health policy researchers reported their top professional goals include building visibility of their work and getting published in top journals. These goals, juxtaposed with the top challenges of driving impact for research and addressing racism in HSR methods, have culminated in this year’s "Meet the Editors" members-only session.
AcademyHealth’s four official journals (The Milbank Quarterly, Health Services Research, Healthcare: The Journal of Delivery Science and Innovation, and Health Affairs) provided an insider’s look into what it takes for researchers to increase their success rate to get published. Panelists provided:
- Detailed insight on the peer-review process (including how to successfully respond to the feedback peer reviewers provide)
- Implementable techniques on how to write an effective research/policy paper to drive impact
- Practical tools to target the most relevant journal for your research (thus increasing your chances of getting published), and detail what the topics and subjects each journal prefers.
Panelists also addressed how their journals are working to incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion within the representation of research in their journals.
