This session will provide an overview of key terms used in health services research (HSR). Synonyms and related terms for methods used in the multiple disciplines that participate in the field will be addressed to facilitate communication among health services researchers. The objectives for this session include: identifying key methodological terms and synonyms used in HSR; and understanding similarities and differences in the use of methodological terms across disciplines.
Faculty Bio: Dr. Matt Maciejewski is currently an Investigator in the Center for Health Services Research in Primary Care the Durahm VA Medical Center. He has academic appointments as an Associate Professor in the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy in the Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and as a Research Associate Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Duke University Medical Center. Matt's work has focused on economic evaluation of programs and interventions designed to improve care for individuals with chronic conditions, including obesity, diabetes and hypertension. He also has a long-standing interest in evaluating methodological approaches to dealing with selection bias in observational studies, in addition to work reviewing multi-disciplinary language in HSR. Dr. Maciejewski holds a PhD in health services research from the University of Minnesota and had a prior faculty appointment at the University of Washington.
