Dr. Abby Nerlinger, MD, MPH is a Pediatric Hospitalist at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland. She completed general pediatrics residency at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia and fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine at Children’s National Health System in Washington, DC. Her research measures the improved health outcomes associated with academic-community partnerships, specifically medical-legal partnership (MLP). She is involved in grant-funded projects through the Association of American Medical Colleges and the Rodham Institute at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences showing the value of MLP through both health and economic endpoints. She is also interested in physician collaboration with legal aid to pursue legislative advocacy that benefits vulnerable populations, including children with medical complexity.
Amidst a myriad of health policy changes, physician advocacy is now more relevant than ever. AcademyHealth member, Dr. Anita Shah and coauthor Dr. Abby Nerlinger highlight a tool for documenting a scholarly approach to advocacy.
