During this webinar, participants explored how the current pandemic and ongoing racial injustice contributes to housing inequity.
Everyone deserves to reside in an affordable, safe, stable home and a neighborhood that fosters well-being, but not everyone has access to such homes or the opportunity to choose where they live. During this moderated session, participants explored how the current pandemic and ongoing racial injustice contributes to homelessness, and housing inequity. Speakers shared data on the susceptibility and disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on neighborhoods where people of color live. Panelists also shared national trends and local examples of housing policy as a historical driver of place-based inequities and examine residential segregation and housing insecurity. The moderator led a discussion with the panelists, solicited questions from the audience, and engaged in a dialogue around housing-related challenges and solutions for overcoming them.
This is the second of two online learning events highlighting select sessions from the 2020 Sharing Knowledge to Build a Culture of Health Conference, held this past March in Jackson, MS. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, in collaboration with AcademyHealth and the National Collaborative for Health Equity, convened a cross-sectoral community of researchers, practitioners, and thought leaders to discuss and share multidisciplinary evidence related to health and well-being. Now in its fifth year, the conference supports the Foundation’s vision to build a national Culture of Health, where everyone in our diverse society has a just and fair opportunity to live the healthiest life possible.
