AcademyHealth today announced the selection of three new members and a new Student Representative to its Board of Directors. The new directors add perspectives from critical health services research constituencies and reflect the organizations commitment to the generation and use of evidence to improve health and health care. The new directors and representative include:  

  • Ali Khan, M.D., M.P.P., Chief Medical Officer - Medicare, Aetna/CVS Health
  • Bianca Frogner, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the University of Washington (UW)
  • Robert O. Valdez, Ph.D., Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Professor of Family & Community Medicine and Economics at the University of New Mexico (UNM)
  • Andrea Thoumi, M.P.P., M.Sc., (Student Member) doctoral student at the Department of Population Health Sciences, Duke University 

In addition, the board is pleased to announce that Danielle A. Lloyd, M.P.H., Senior Vice President, Private Market Innovations & Quality Initiatives, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) will return as the chair of AcademyHealth’s Committee on Advocacy and Public Policy, and will serve a one-year term in conjunction with that role.  

Directors Ali Khan, M.D., M.P.P., Chief Medical Officer - Medicare, Aetna/CVS Health, Bianca Frogner, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the  University of Washington (UW) and Robert O. Valdez, Ph.D., Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Professor of Family & Community Medicine and Economics at the University of New Mexico have each been elected to serve a three-year term. 

Ms. Andrea Thoumi, M.P.P., M.Sc., a doctoral student at the Department of Population Health Sciences, Duke University has been elected to serve a two-year term. 

The newly elected and returning Directors begin their terms in December. 

“We are excited to welcome these exceptional individuals to our Board,” said AcademyHealth President and CEO Dr. Aaron Carroll. “Each brings unique insights and deep leadership experience that will help AcademyHealth better meet the challenges of generating and using evidence to improve health and health care for all in a changing world.”  

As AcademyHealth’s governing body, the Board of Directors provides overall strategic direction, serves critical stewardship functions by reviewing and giving input to the development of programs and services, and fulfills fiduciary responsibilities by approving the annual budget and audit.  

The new class joins a diverse, multidisciplinary Board that represents and reflects the membership of AcademyHealth, including experience in academia, membership organizations, technology, and health care delivery systems.
