​The Interdisciplinary Research Group on Nursing Issues (IRGNI) promotes and supports the development of health services research that focuses on nursing practice, workforce, and delivery of care.

IRGNI sponsors a variety of awards annually. More information on each award is below:

IRGNI Best Poster Award

Overview

The IRGNI Best Poster Award recognizes outstanding scientific contribution presented at the IRGNI pre-conference. Eligible posters must be accepted and presented at the meeting, and the award is granted to the poster receiving the highest number of attendee votes.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  • Poster must be accepted into the IRGNI pre-conference program
  • Poster must be presented during the poster sessions
  • No separate application is required to be considered--all accepted and presented posters are automatically eligible.
  • The Best Poster Award is awarded to the poster receiving the highest number of votes from meeting attendees

The award will be presented at the IRGNI pre-conference at the 2026 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting.

IRGNI New Investigator Award

Overview

The IRGNI New Investigator Award honors early-career scholars whose research demonstrates exceptional scientific merit. The award is presented to the top-scoring abstract submitted by a new investigator and accepted to the IRGNI pre-conference.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  • Abstract accepted to the IRGNI pre-conference
  • First author completed their PhD or equivalent terminal degree within the past seven years
  • No separate application is required to be considered--eligibility is assessed during the abstract submission process.
  • The New Investigator Award is awarded to the first author with the highest-rated eligible abstract based on standard peer review scores

The award will be presented at the IRGNI pre-conference at the 2026 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting.

IRGNI Mentorship Award - Apply Here

Overview

The IRGNI Mentorship Award recognizes an IRGNI member who has demonstrated a sustained commitment to mentoring investigators and/or students. Honorees exemplify generosity with time, guidance, professional development support, and investment in the growth of others.

Eligibility and Nomination Criteria

  • Nominee must be an IRGNI member
  • A single nomination letter (maximum 2 pages) highlighting the nominees’ qualifications for the award, which may be co-signed
  • Nominee’s CV
  • Short nominee bio (3-4 sentences) and headshot

Review Criteria

  • Demonstrates excellence in mentoring by providing guidance, support, and professional development to emerging scholars and investigators.
  • Shows sustained and meaningful contributions to mentees’ growth, including development of research skills, scholarly productivity, career advancement, and/or increased confidence and independence.
  • Provides clear examples of mentorship that lead to tangible outcomes such as publications, presentations, funded work, leadership roles, or successful progression into academic or research careers.
  • Uses effective and intentional mentoring practices, including constructive feedback, resource sharing, accountability to goals, and the creation of opportunities for mentee success.
  • Engages in ongoing development as a mentor through reflection, skill-building, and refinement of mentoring approaches over time.
