How you’ll contribute:

The Research Assistant will help to support programmatic efforts for AcademyHealth’s work with state health policymakers participating in our Evidence-Informed State Heath Policy Institute’s (ESHPI) portfolio of Medicaid-related projects and Networks (e.g., Medicaid Medical Director Network, State-University Partnership Learning Network), and other programs that advance the use of evidence-based research and promote health equity in health policy and practice. Specifically, this role will coordinate meetings and communications, support engagement with stakeholder communities and networks, and provide research assistance to various projects in the form of literature reviews, environmental scans, and summary findings in a variety of product formats (e.g., briefs, PowerPoint decks, reports).

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for collaborative working groups, workshops and conferences, including scheduling meetings and conference calls, communicating travel and logistics, preparing and disseminating materials, note taking, creating, updating, and maintaining organized files and records, and other related tasks.
  • Provide additional coordination support for AcademyHealth networks and projects, including agenda development, email communication and organization of materials for presenters and attendees for small and large meetings and briefings.
  • Contribute to research, analysis and synthesis, implementation, and dissemination activities and products, such as environmental scans, literature reviews and semi-structured interviews.
  • Create and format tables, charts, presentations, and other graphics.
  • Assist and provide technical support with online engagement of stakeholder communities and learning networks.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with diverse and representative partners and stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update program and project websites, online tools, and databases.
  • Draft online newsletters, blogs, and other Web content.
  • Conduct and summarize online research related to learning health systems, social determinants of health, health equity, community health, and other topics.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university required.
  • 1 - 2 years of relevant work experience preferably in a health care policy or research setting, with a professional interest in health policy, public health, health equity, social determinants, or other health care and community health issues.
  • Commitment to valuing equity and diversity, contributing to an inclusive working and/or learning environments.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including demonstrated ability to efficiently plan, organize, and manage complex, multiple projects simultaneously with limited supervision or direction.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain a system of tracking, monitoring, and prioritizing tasks and projects.  
  • Experience with balancing and supporting the administrative needs of multiple individuals.
  • Excellent analytic and critical thinking skills.
  • A can-do attitude and willingness to pitch in as needed do what it takes to provide high quality products and services.
  • Detail-oriented individual able to work both independently and in teams.
  • Demonstrated experience using the Word suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
