The seminar will orient participants to simple simulation models that can be performed using Excel or other spreadsheet programs, as well as more complex regression-based approaches and agent-based models. Topics including take up of Medicaid and private insurance and eligibility for insurance subsidies and credits will be used as examples to illustrate the use of these techniques and will be demonstrated using standard statistical software (e.g. SAS).

This session will provide an overview of microsimulation strategies for HSR, with worked examples. SAS). The objectives of this session are to:

  • Describe key components of simple simulation models, as well as more complex agent-based models
  • Provide knowledge of approaches and tools that enable researchers to develop and run their own simulation models; and
  • Demonstrate simulation models and discuss interpretation of results
