Trust and confidence in health care organizations are essential for a well-functioning health care system, but they are in rapid decline as issues of mistrust and misinformation have become increasingly widespread. To better assess issues of trust in our health care system, the ABIM Foundation and AcademyHealth convened researchers, measurement experts, health system leaders, policy experts, and patient advocates to: • Better understand existing measures of trust – their purpose, methods, and what constitutes a good measure of trust. • Experience the considerations that go into the selection and use of a measure of trust. • Explore how existing measures fulfill our purposes of measuring trust or need further development, and what new measures are needed.
