Alvina Liang is a fourth-year medical student at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine dedicated to advancing health equity through policy, advocacy, and service. She serves as co-President of the Social Mission Committee, coordinating student volunteers across six subcommittees focused on service, curriculum reform, and community engagement. Her research explores how health literacy and social vulnerability intersect to influence vision outcomes. This work was inspired by her experiences caring for underserved ophthalmology patients as both a clinical volunteer and co-director of the ophthalmology clinic at Vanderbilt’s student-run Shade Tree Clinic. Looking ahead, Alvina aims to blend clinical care with systems-level thinking and policy-informed research to help build a more inclusive and effective healthcare system.
