Ashley Wennerstrom, Ph.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor at LSU Health Sciences Center-New Orleans. Dr. Wennerstrom has over a decade of experience conducting community-academic partnered public health research, with a particular focus on the community health worker workforce.  She also has experience evaluating and providing technical assistance to several Louisiana Medicaid programs. Dr. Wennerstrom is a Robert Wood Johnson Interdisciplinary Research Leaders fellow.  She is a founding board member of the National Association of Community Health Workers and serves as the chair of its policy committee. Dr. Wennerstrom is a co-founder of the Louisiana Community Health Outreach Network (LACHON).  She currently co-leads the Louisiana Community Health Worker Workforce Study Committee. She previously served as chair of the American Public Health Association (APHA) Community Health Planning and Policy Development Section, and she led the APHA CHW Section policy committee for five years.

What Are the Roles of Community Health Workers in Medicaid Managed Care? Results from a National Study

This national study of the roles and activities of community health workers supported by Medicaid Managed Care Organizations finds that community health workers employed by Managed Care Organizations reported receiving significantly more training and benefits from their employers than community health workers who were contracted through other organizations.
