Carl Bergstrom is a Professor of Biology at the University of Washington and a member of the external faculty at the Santa Fe Institute. Though trained in mathematical evolutionary biology and infectious disease epidemiology, Carl addresses a broad range of problems across natural and social sciences with a unifying theme of how information flows through natural and social systems. In recent years he has started to focus on how social media and large language models facilitate the spread of disinformation, and what we as a society can do about it.
