Donna L. Washington, MD, MPH, FACP, a General Internist and health services researcher, is Director of the VHA Health Equity-Quality Enhancement Research Initiative National Partnered Evaluation Center. She is Women’s Health Focused Research Area Lead for the VA HSR&D Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation, Implementation, and Policy (CSHIIP), Director of Health Services Research for the VA Greater Los Angeles Department of Medicine, and Professor of Medicine at UCLA Geffen School of Medicine. Dr. Washington has devoted her career to addressing the health care needs of vulnerable and underserved populations, particularly racial/ethnic minority and women Veterans. She is nationally recognized for her scholarly work on health care access, quality, and equity for these populations. Her work has led to national VA policies to address delivery of services for women, and has contributed to VA’s strategic plan for improving health equity. Dr. Washington has received several awards for her work, including VA HSR&D Research Career Development Awards, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Amos Medical Faculty Development Program award, the 2015 Society of General Internal Medicine’s Herbert Nickens Award, and the 2019 Congressional Black Caucus Veterans Braintrust Award.
