Doris Stith has worked with the Young Visionaries for Health Project in collaboration with Dr. Leah Frerichs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel since 2017. The Young Visionaries for Health consists of approximately 12 students at Tarboro High School who serve as a Youth Advisory Board organized to explore ways that community resources and structures can contribute to physical activity, health and well-being. The upcoming second phase of their research will explore mental health services and their impact on community well-being and will be funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Doris Stith has a 50-year work history with nonprofits, which started with Model Cities in Charlotte where she worked on affordable health care and housing. Her experience also includes Gram Research and Development as a partner in the development and acquisition of a patent to reduce the volume of contaminated waste using ozonation and ultraviolet light.
From 1987 – 1991, Doris Stith served as executive assistant and resource director with Metrolina Comprehensive Health Center dba as C. W. Williams Community Health Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Since July 1993, Doris Stith has been the Executive Director of the Community Enrichment Organization in Tarboro, North Carolina where she has administered 29 years of the monthly Unity Breakfast for senior citizens, 20 years of pregnancy prevention initiatives, 14 years of the Support Our Students after school program, and eight years of the Teach One Reach One HIV prevention program. She has also brought training and knowledge to the staff and community through certifications in Nonprofit Management, Making Proud Choices, Triple P Parenting, Community Health Coach, Partners for a Healthy Baby, Healthy Places North Carolina Leadership, and Community Fellows Leadership Program.
Doris Stith is currently serves on the Development Council for Vidant Edgecombe Hospital, and is a board member of Project Momentum, Inc., Edgecombe County Committee on Domestic Violence, Edgecombe County Council for Adolescent Health, and Edgecombe County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council. Former board memberships include Heritage Hospital, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, N.C. Center for Nonprofits, Tarboro/Edgecombe Chamber of Commerce, Town of Tarboro Board of Adjustments, Edgecombe Alliance for Community Health (Healthy Carolinians), Edgecombe County Public Schools Redirections Advisory Committee, and Edgecombe County Human Relations Commission. She studied Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a life-long member of Harts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Doris Stith is a 2022 grantee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Community Research for Health Equity program, managed by AcademyHealth.
