Dr. Abahuje is a general surgeon and a Research Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Michigan. He completed Medical School and General Surgery Residency at the University of Rwanda.
He holds a Ph.D. in Health Professions Education from the MGH Institute of Health Professions and completed a simulation education fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Surgery at Northwestern University. Dr. Abahuje’s work focuses on leveraging emerging technologies within implementation science and educational research to develop, implement, and evaluate patient safety and health professionals’ learning interventions.
Dr. Abahuje contributed to the design and implementation of non-technical skills training programs delivered in several African countries and the United States. He has also led multiple projects focused on surgical education, patient safety, and global capacity building in surgery.
