Dr. Eileen Appelbaum is Co-Director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research. Prior to joining CEPR, Dr. Appelbaum was a Distinguished Professor at Rutgers University and, earlier, Professor of Economics at Temple University. Her research focuses on the financialization of health care. Her 2014 coauthored book Private Equity at Work: When Wall Street Manages Main Street was chosen as an award-winning book by the Academy of Management. Her coauthored 2019 report on Private Equity in Health Care, Who Wins and Who Loses played an influential role in Congress’s decision to ban most surprise medical bills. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
