Dr. Jennifer Vanderlaan is an Associate Professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing. A certified nurse-midwife and health services researcher, her work examines maternal health systems. Her research has developed methods for identifying and measuring the nurse-midwifery workforce in national administrative data, evaluated associations between state practice regulation and workforce outcomes, and validated measures of hospital maternal level of care. She currently serves as Principal Investigator on a national study evaluating pathways to independent practice regulation for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, and the development and implementation of virtual reality simulation for nurse education.
Dr. Vanderlaan's work has informed state and federal policy. She is a Fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and has been an AcademyHealth member since 2013
