Jungwei W. (Fred) Fan, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics at Mayo Clinic and an affiliate of the Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery. He has 20 years of experience in health informatics and over 65 peer-reviewed publications. Fred began his career as an informatics scientist with a focus on natural language processing. Over the past decade, he has expanded his methods to broadly leveraging structured and unstructured data, including electronic health records, scientific literature, and patient-generated health data. His interests mainly pertain to 1) Applying informatics methods for understanding the mechanism and the care for multimorbidity; 2) Using real-world data to investigate medical practice variation and care disruption. His research has been funded by the NIH and industry. Fred is passionate about applying health information technology for quality improvement and advancing health services research.
