Dr. Toluwani Elizabeth Adekunle is an Assistant Professor of Public Health at Calvin University, where her scholarship integrates critical pedagogy, community based research, and structural analysis of health inequities. Her work focuses on the socio political determinants of health, examining how systems of power, policy, and governance shape health outcomes, particularly among immigrant, refugee, and Black communities. Dr. Adekunle employs both qualitative and mixed methods approaches to explore issues such as medical mistrust, cancer disparities, and structural barriers to equitable care. A dedicated educator, she embeds justice oriented frameworks into her teaching, equipping students to critically examine health systems and apply public health knowledge in transformative ways. Her research has been supported by national fellowships and presented at leading conferences including AcademyHealth, APHA, and NCA. She currently co leads several transdisciplinary projects on trust, equity, and health communication and serves as Program Manager for the African Resource Center’s Health and Wellness initiatives.
