Dr. Sambamoorthi brings nearly four decades of expertise in investigative health economics, services, and outcomes research. Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Sambamoorthi has demonstrated a commitment to advancing health equity through interdisciplinary collaboration and rigorous research. Her extensive collaborative efforts encompass partnerships with professionals across diverse fields. These collaborations have culminated in over 270 publications showcasing her ability to bridge disciplinary boundaries for the greater good. Dr. Sambamoorthi's research has been supported by NIH, VHA HSR&D, as well as private foundations and corporations. Her leadership in linking data from multiple sources has been pivotal in highlighting the extensive possibilities of utilizing diverse data to study health equity.
Dr. Sambamoorth's current research focus involves implementing responsible AI methods to minimize bias and mitigate health disparities, contributing significantly to the ethical advancement of AI in healthcare. She currently serves as one of the MPIs of the AIM-AHEAD program (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity).
Dr. Sambamoorthi is actively engaged in instructional activities aligned with her research focus. She mentors individuals at all levels. Dr. Sambamoorthi's outstanding mentoring has been recognized with prestigious awards, including those from the American Public Health Association (2010), WVU Vice President’s Award (2017), WVU Health Sciences (2017), and the WVU Distinction in Graduate Research Mentoring award in 2020.
