She is board-certified in pediatrics and clinical informatics, and practices as a general pediatrician at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Primary Care Center.
Her training included residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and fellowship in general academic pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on the intersection between patients and healthcare systems, where she seeks to understand and improve patient access and outcomes through system-level interventions with the goal of improving the efficiency, family-centeredness, equity, and value of pediatric health care delivery systems.
She is particularly interested in the impact of innovations in health information technology on patients and providers, including electronic consultations and telemedicine. She is currently funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to examine and improve the use of telemedicine and electronic consultations for pediatric subspecialty care. She is a co-investigator on an ongoing RCT examining the use of tele-lactation services for women in rural communities. Additional work in progress examines the quality of care during direct-to-consumer telemedicine visits.
Dr. Ray also leads quality improvement work for a network of 40 pediatric primary care sites as the Director of Health Systems Improvement for Children’s Community Pediatrics. She is a member of the Academic Pediatric Association Health Care Delivery Executive Committee and the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Pediatric Workforce.
