Jennifer Manganello, Ph.D., M.P.H.

Jennifer Manganello, Associate Professor in the School of Public Health at University at Albany, State University of New York, is a health communication scholar whose work is designed to make health information more accessible and easier to understand. Her research involves the study of health literacy, assessing the effects of media on health, and examining the dissemination of health information using mass media, including social media. Much of her work focuses on the health of children, adolescents, young adults and parents.

Her research incorporates theories, concepts, and methods from the fields of public health and communication, and she has examined a range of topics impacting youth including injury and nutrition. She teaches courses related to behavioral health, health communication, media, and health literacy.

Before coming to UAlbany, she was a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School for Communication and received her Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her M.P.H. is from Boston University and her B.A. is from Pomona College.
