James Krings, M.D., MSc, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis and a Pulmonary and Critical Care physician at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. His research integrates respiratory medicine, implementation science, and health policy to improve real-world asthma and COPD outcomes. He collaborates with Missouri Medicaid (MO HealthNet) and federally qualified health centers to expand equitable access to guideline-recommended asthma care, including through leading the NIH-funded CHEST Study (https://chestasthmastudy.wustl.edu/). His advocacy work is supported by an American Lung Association Public Health Policy grant, and he is involved in multiple NIH-, PCORI-, and industry-funded studies in asthma and COPD. Dr. Krings serves nationally on the American Lung Association’s Scientific Advisory Committee and on the Missouri HealthNet Drug Prior Authorization Committee.
Dr. Krings is committed to advancing the use of implementation science within pulmonary medicine, with active projects focused on increasing uptake of evidence-based inhaler strategies, leveraging payer and policy interventions, and strengthening community–academic partnerships. He has mentored residents, fellows, medical students, and MPH trainees and is dedicated to developing future leaders who bridge clinical care, pulmonary medicine, and implementation science to improve respiratory health.
