Melissa (Mel) Flores is a graduate student in Community Psychology and an emerging researcher committed to understanding how social, cultural, and structural environments shape mental health, educational attainment, and opportunities for well-being. Guided by an ecological perspective, Melissa’s work explores the intersections of trauma, psychoeducation, educational attainment, and equity among historically marginalized communities.

Drawing from experiences as a literacy intervention specialist, community-engaged researcher, and student scholar, Melissa is passionate about conducting research that recognizes the strengths of individuals and communities while addressing systemic barriers that impact health and belonging. Their research experience includes examining mental health, coping, food insecurity, and factors that promote resilience through quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches.

Melissa is dedicated to bridging research and practice by supporting evidence-informed solutions that create meaningful, lasting change. They hope to contribute to efforts that move beyond identifying disparities toward building systems rooted in empathy, empowerment, and opportunity.
