Jonathan O'Donnell, M.D., is the Manager of the Practice Transformation Unit in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University and a Research Affiliate at the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy. His work aims to radically improve value in health care delivery by working simultaneously to transform care and payment for chronic musculoskeletal conditions. At Duke, he co-developed and oversees a collaborative, personalized care model for patients with hip and knee osteoarthritis that comprehensively manages pain and improves mobility and quality of life. Dr. O’Donnell also spearheads a public-private sector work group that is developing a condition-based payment model for chronic musculoskeletal conditions, including degenerative joint disease and back pain. 

Dr. O’Donnell earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and completed his internship in the Duke Internal Medicine Residency program before pursuing a career focused on health care transformation, payment, and policy. He is a current executive MBA candidate at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke.
