Dr. Shira Winter is a Health Services Research and Development Fellow at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System in conjunction with the Stanford University School of Medicine. She completed her PhD in nursing with a concentration in health policy at the University of California, San Francisco, where she was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Scholar. She holds a B.A. in Modern Middle Eastern Studies from Yale University, and a BSN and MSN in the family nurse practitioner specialty from the MGH Institute of Health Professions.
Dr. Winter’s research focuses on the implementation of population health initiatives and the evolving role of the nursing workforce. Her prior work has explored the role and contribution of nurse practitioners in ambulatory specialty care in the context of value-based care.
Dr. Winter is a 2019 AcademyHealth Delivery System Science Fellow. Her host site is the Department of Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System.
