In a Health Affairs blog post today, AcademyHealth staff who manage a vibrant learning community of senior clinical leaders of state Medicaid programs reflect on that community’s recent efforts around maternal mortality and morbidity. With a specific focus on addressing disparities, Susan Kennedy and Sunita Krishnan highlight innovative practices in New York, Wisconsin, Ohio, Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, and Delaware to address access barriers and improve health equity to ensure enhanced coverage for disparate populations. Some measures include piloting doula, peer navigator, and home visit programs. States are working to standardize solutions through national guidance and diverse legislation to ensure the safety and well-being of all women and their infants.
