Each year at the Annual Research Meeting (ARM), AcademyHealth recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the fields of health services research and health policy through several prestigious awards. This year, we will be offering six awards for the ARM.
Nominations for all awards, except for the HCUP Award for Outstanding Research, are now open through Monday, February 24, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. ET.

This new award honors Dr. Gail Wilensky’s legacy by recognizing leaders in health policy who have made a positive impact on the American health care system through the development and use of evidence to shape U.S. health policy. Awardees must be mid- to senior-career professionals with a demonstrated track record of policy impact and a commitment to advancing health for all. In celebrating their accomplishments and recognizing exceptional leadership, the award will continue Dr. Wilensky’s legacy and preserve her memory for future generations of policy experts. The Reinhardt Distinguished Award is AcademyHealth’s highest career award, recognizing leaders who have made significant and lasting contributions to the field of health services research (HSR). Awardees have impacted the field through advancement of science and methods, leadership, mentorship, scholarship and teaching, and/or the application of health services and policy evidence to improve health and health care. The Alice S. Hersh Emerging Leader Award commemorates the dedication of Alice Hersh, the founding executive director of the Association for Health Services Research, and her commitment to supporting professional development in the field of health services research. This award therefore recognizes professionals early in their career who show exceptional promise for future contributions to the field of health services research. 2024 Winner
The Outstanding Dissertation Award recognizes an outstanding scientific contribution from a doctoral thesis in health services research or health policy in 2023. Dissertations from a wide variety of methodologies are encouraged for nomination, including quantitative, mixed-methods, and qualitative. Judging by the innovative research, this doctoral candidate shows exceptional promise as a health services researcher. Learn More »

The Publication-of-the-Year Award recognizes the best and most relevant, scientific work that the fields of health services research and health policy have produced and published in the prior calendar year. Publications may present, analyze, and comment on new data, or may synthesize and analyze data that have already been collected. As the health services research and health policy field has changed, AcademyHealth encourages researchers from all employment settings to submit their work. Learn More »
2024 Winner
The Mosaic Award recognizes organized groups within health services and policy research (HSR) that share this commitment and have created a more representative and welcoming experience and sense of community for their employees and/or members. This recognition will be awarded to an organization or group. Nominated groups can include organizations, as well as defined departments, centers, clinical or research units; working groups of employees, faculty, staff, and students involved in a project, program, or cross-system coalition; and collective efforts that have taken demonstrable steps through initiatives, programs, or policies. The Association of University Programs in Health Administration
The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) Award for Outstanding Research (previously called the Outstanding Article of the Year Award) is a biennial event sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and AcademyHealth. The award recognizes outstanding research published in peer-reviewed journals that used HCUP databases. Winning authors and their research will be announced at the 2025 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting (ARM). Work honored demonstrates how HCUP has contributed to addressing health care research topics and issues. The 2025 nomination period for the HCUP award is closed. Learn More »
