Mignote Yilma, M.D. was born in Ethiopia and came to the US when she was fifteen. The immigration process, as well as finding healthcare access was formative and continues to shape her career goals. She attended Stanford for undergraduate and got her MD from Charles R Drew/UCLA. As a first-generation college graduate, the mentorship she received was truly transformative, and it continuous to influence her own work as a mentor. She is currently finishing her third year of surgical training and will be joining the prestigious NCSP program at UCSF where she will be working towards a Masters in Clinical Research and pursuing health disparity research in liver transplant.
