Overview
AcademyHealth is seeking applications for individuals to serve on its Committee on Advocacy and Public Policy (CAPP), an advisory committee of the Board of Directors that is tasked with advising the Board and AcademyHealth staff on the development of the organization’s guiding principles and policy priorities, formulation of policy positions, and implementation of advocacy strategies. Applicants must be an individual or organizational member of AcademyHealth to serve on the CAPP.
Those elected to the committee are expected to be active participants in AcademyHealth’s advocacy efforts by:
- Participating in four committee meetings per year (four conference calls, typically scheduled in February, May, September, and November);
- Meeting with congressional staff and/or members of Congress throughout the year, as needed, to help advance AcademyHealth's advocacy priorities;
- Contacting members of Congress and administration officials about AcademyHealth’s advocacy priorities and positions, as needed; and
- Providing guidance on letters, comments, testimony, and policy positions.
Selection Process
AcademyHealth strives to create a diverse committee according to gender, race/ethnicity, ideology, and geographic location. AcademyHealth also strives to have representation from a diverse range perspectives, representing the breadth of producers and users of health services research and health data including: researchers in both academic and other settings; patients and consumers; delivery systems and hospitals; health care providers and public health professionals; health plans and employers; pharmaceutical and other medical industries; and federal, state, and local policymakers (former and current, if allowed).
Please note: AcademyHealth will accept one student to serve on the committee in a non-voting capacity, so students with an interest in health policy and advocacy are encouraged to apply.

Elected individuals will begin their term in February 2025, and will serve one year.
