Overview: The emphasis on patient involvement in research is drawing considerable national interest in strategies to support meaningful engagement and collaboration. Researchers have approached patient engagement in many different ways, tailoring their efforts based on specific research needs, the patient community, and institutional considerations. However, many people working to increase patient engagement in research are experiencing similar challenges. This webinar presented three different models where patients and researchers worked together to develop and sustain patient involvement and engagement in PCOR.

Learning Objectives: Three specific models for patient engagement in research were described. At the conclusion of the session, participants were able to compare and contrast:

  • How patient stakeholders are identified and recruited.
  • Approaches to sustaining patient involvement, given the ebb and flow of research priorities and resources.
  • Strategies to develop and sustain the resources needed to support and encourage continued engagement.
