Better Birth Outcomes: What You Need to Know About Doulas
This one-pager outlines what a doula is, how birthing people can benefit from doula services, and how medical providers can work with their patients and doulas in their communities to ensure their patients have access to outcome-improving services.
Doula services have been shown to positively impact social determinants of health, support birth equity, and decrease existing health and racial disparities. This one-pager, created by project partners and staff participating in the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)-funded Project DREAM (Doula Research for Equitable Advances in Medicaid Pregnancy Health) highlights benefits of doula services for birthing people and how medical providers can find doulas in their states and work with doulas to improve birth outcomes for their patients.
Thank you to all Project DREAM Dissemination Workgroup members for their review and contribution to this one pager.
