The Translation and Dissemination Institute reflects AcademyHealth’s longstanding commitment to and evolving understanding of how best to move health services research into policy and practice. The Advisory Committee provides guidance to the Institute on its overall direction and its activities. These efforts include assisting research producers and research users to better understand each other’s perspectives and needs, helping place research in context, and incubating new and innovative approaches to moving knowledge into action.
Individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by AcademyHealth members or Organizational Affiliates.
Committee members are expected to actively participate in AcademyHealth's translation and dissemination efforts by:
- Participating in two meetings throughout the year, one of which may be in-person (travel and lodging expenses will be covered);
- Serving as an occasional, informal advisor who:
- Reviews draft Institute reports as needed; and
- Provides insight and advice for specific Institute projects and the Institute’s future directions.
Current members of the Committee come from a variety of backgrounds including medicine, nursing, economics, business, health administration, health policy, political science, sociology, psychology, public health, strategic communications, and science communications. Although no specific background is required, AcademyHealth is looking for Committee members who have a demonstrated interest and expertise in the translation, communication, dissemination, or implementation of health services research to inform health policy or health care delivery. AcademyHealth further seeks nominations that ensure the Institute has a diverse set of advisers that includes: (1) racial, ethnic, and other historically underrepresented minorities, (2) gender balance, (3) broad geographic representation, and (4) a broad range of relevant professional experiences and philosophical perspectives.
Because the Institute often benefits from expertise far afield from health services research, AcademyHealth membership is encouraged but not required of Advisory Committee nominees.
Nomination Deadline: October 6, 2017
Elected individuals will begin their terms in January 2018 and serve three years. To nominate yourself or someone else to serve on the Translation and Dissemination Institute’s Advisory Committee, please complete this nomination form.
