Community members with lived experience of the health care system are integral partners in research. Community members experience first-hand the impact of health care policies and practices, and their goals, priorities, and questions are a driving force in generating meaningful, impactful research.

In this session, moderator Steven Wu of Scholars Strategy Network, along with panelists Dr. Stefanie Chambers, Dr. Vetta Sanders Thompson, and Logan Singerman share practical steps and lessons learned for planning and carrying out community-engaged research studies. The session aims to help viewers understand different types of community-engaged research, determine how to begin this process in their own research programs, identify potential challenges that will likely arise, and balance this work with professional demands.

This session was developed by Scholars Strategy Network, in partnership with AcademyHealth and with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
