Registration for the main D&I meeting is required to attend all workshops below. All pre-conference workshops will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, December 14. To register for a workshop, follow the registration flow for the main meeting and select your workshop when prompted.
PLEASE NOTE: All workshops are available to conference attendees for an additional charge of $75. You may only register for ONE pre-conference workshop.
Doing the MOST to Evaluate Implementation Strategies
This workshop will introduce the Multiphase Optimization STrategy (MOST) framework and discuss how it can be used to design and optimize multi-component implementation strategies, or bundles of multiple implementation strategies. After the workshop, participants will be able to 1) describe the three phases of the MOST framework and how they are applied in the development and testing of implementation strategies; 2) develop a conceptual model for a study of their own design that identifies implementation strategies, mediators, and outcomes; and 3) plan experimental conditions for a trial to evaluate implementation strategies and design an optimized multiple-strategy package.
Facilitating NIH-Funded Dissemination and Implementation Research
The overarching goal is to provide a forum for D&I researchers, at all stages of their career, interested in pursuing NIH funding, to learn all aspects of the application process. Twenty NIH D&I-focused staff (program officers, scientific review officers, deputy directors) across 10 ICOs will present foundational information about the NIH application process, describe effective strategies to navigate the NIH D&I funding landscape, and ensure extensive opportunities to ask questions and interact. We will facilitate ample opportunities to grow professional networks among attendees and bolster success in obtaining NIH D&I-focused funding.
Harnessing AI for D&I Science: Building Capacity and Exploring Emerging Frontiers
Join us for an engaging workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) research. This interactive session will introduce essential AI tools and practices to enhance D&I research through brief didactic sessions, live demonstrations, and experiential learning activities centered on practical use cases (e.g., data abstraction, manuscript and proposal writing, crafting dissemination plans) for diverse audiences. Led by experts Adam Wilcox, PhD, Rachel Dungan, MSSP, and Lauren Adams, MA, the workshop will refine your AI skills, emphasizing ethical use and practical application. Build AI literacy, prompt engineering skills, and engage in critical discussions to optimize your research impact.
Intervention Mapping for Adaptation (IM-ADAPT Online): A Tool to Adapt Ebis
This course offers a guided tutorial of a tool (imadapt.org) that provides resources to complete the five tasks of Intervention Mapping for Adaptation (IM-ADAPT), a systematic, theory-informed, and iterative framework that guides the adaptation of evidence-based interventions (EBIs). Participants will complete activities that help them to: (1) Assess community needs and set goals, (2) Discover available EBIs and evaluate their fit for a new context, (3) Adapt an EBI for a new population and setting, (4) Put the EBI into practice by modifying implementation strategies, and (5) Testing progress via an evaluation plan.
Planning for Sustainment: It’s Never Too Early, but It Could be Too Late
Planning for the sustainment phase of a project requires addressing the inevitable pain points that will arise. Whether you are preparing to sustain an intervention you’ve successfully implemented or writing a grant to consider sustainment, this workshop has the resources and experts to guide this important and often overlooked phase. The deliverables for attendees are: completed template framework of anticipated determinants of sustainment and PSAT/CSAT scores for their own project, as well as a set of potential sustainment strategies. The speakers/facilitators from the NHLBI-funded DECIPHeR Alliance (decipheralliance.org) will provide large-group instruction and small-group guidance to complete these deliverables.
The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR): Application in Dissemination & Implementation (D&I) Research
By participating in this conference workshop, attendees will learn how to apply CFIR in implementation research across four key phases: study design, data collection, data analysis, and data interpretation. They will also learn how CFIR can be integrated with other frameworks to conduct hybrid trials, assessing both implementation and innovation effectiveness, which is necessary to fully realize the benefits of D&I science. By participating in this workshop, attendees will gain hands-on experience, receive expert guidance, and collaborate with peers. This session is a valuable opportunity to build expertise in using CFIR, enhance your research toolkit, and strengthen the rigor and relevance of your implementation work.
