Sara Becker, Ph.D. is the Alice Hamilton Professor of Psychiatry and the Inaugural Director of the Center for Dissemination and Implementation Science (CDIS) at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of the Medicine. Dr. Becker conducts programmatic research that integrates patient-focused dissemination (e.g., direct-to-consumer marketing, technology-assisted interventions) and provider-focused implementation (e.g., multi-level implementation approaches, workforce development) strategies. She currently serves as Multiple Principal Investigator of Northwestern’s Clinical and Translational Science Award and the Research Adoption Support Center, both of which focus on promoting the integration of implementation science methods into work across the translational research continuum. To date, she has been a Principal Investigator on 12 grants from the NIH, SAMHSA, PEPFAR, and AHRQ totaling over $90 million in federal funding. In 2022, she was honored to become the first implementation scientist to receive a prestigious Method to Extend Research in Time (MERIT) award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Dr. Becker’s portfolio is a testament to the creativity, ambition, and scientific rigor of her long-term scientific collaborator Bryan R. Garner, PhD, who passed away earlier this year.
