A CYSHCN-Driven Roadmap for School-Based Mental Health Research: Summary Brief
This brief presents prioritized research questions to address evidence gaps regarding school-based mental health services and programs for CYSHCN with emotional and behavioral needs.
The Thriving in School project worked to develop a national CYSHCN-driven roadmap that is appropriate for comparative effectiveness research (CER), practice, policy, and advocacy. This 5-page brief summarizes the background, context, and rationale for the final research agenda. It also features the top ranked research questions for each of the following domains:
- Date & Measurement
- Equity
- Financing & Regulation
- Models of Care & Support
- School & District Climate
- Workforce
- Youth/Family Engagement
Curating a shared set of priorities helps enable the evidence base to be built in a coordinated, cohesive way that emphasizes feasibility and impact. The prioritized research agenda aims to guide the field in gaining a deeper understanding of how to optimize school-based mental health services for CYSHCN with emotional and behavioral needs, leading to more effective programs that improve mental health outcomes and wellbeing for this population.
