Allison Pinkerton is a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California.  She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2015 at the age of 29.  Traveling 200 miles, she began working with the resources, staff, and endocrinologist, Aaron Neinstein M.D, at UC San Francisco.  She utilizes Tidepool, an open source hub for diabetes data, to view and organize data for management of her diabetes with a continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump.  Taking a diligent and empowered role in her own health care and daily management, she has remained active in hobbies including yoga, skiing, hiking, running, backpacking, and paddle boarding.

Allison’s meticulous work managing her diabetes has taken her through many life changes since diagnosis. She has continued to work full time work in psychotherapy, completed her MFT license, and married in 2016.  Her self-care during pregnancy and the birth of a healthy baby girl in December, rank at the top of her many accomplishments.  She hopes to write a book in the future regarding her identity-changing journey from a mental health perspective.  Allison lives in Northern California with her husband, daughter, and pet Boxer.
