Amrit Ray, M.D., M.B.A. is a globally-experienced industry leader, physician researcher, and biopharmaceuticals expert. He is passionate about advancing medical breakthroughs and championing healthcare access for patients. Dr. Ray serves as a board director and advisor to biopharmaceutical companies. Previously, Dr. Ray was Global President, R&D and Medical, and Executive Leadership Team member at Pfizer Upjohn where he oversaw all aspects of research, Phases I-IV development, regulatory, safety and medical affairs worldwide. He chaired the R&D Investment Committee and served as the company’s most senior decision-maker and spokesperson on patient matters. Dr. Ray has over 20 years of healthcare experience and has held three C-level roles of increasing responsibility at major companies, leading up to 3,500 professionals in 90 countries. He co-led Pfizer’s launch of the world’s first China-headquartered global biopharma in 2019, and he has played instrumental roles in corporate M&A transactions. Before Pfizer, Dr. Ray was Chief Medical Officer and R&D Leadership Team Member for pharmaceuticals at Johnson & Johnson. His functional experience in R&D, medical affairs, and Real-World Evidence has been applied to advance pipelines, access, and patient impact for several breakthrough medicines in Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Cardio-Metabolism, and other areas. Additionally, he has sponsored over 100 pioneering healthcare partnerships with organizations such as the American College of Cardiology, Duke University, Alibaba, and Emirates airlines. Dr. Ray’s contributions to public health have been recognized by patients, governments, and academia. He has authored numerous scientific papers and given invited expert input to the World Health Organization, U.S. Congress, Gates Foundation, Brookings Institution, UK MHRA, Chinese NMPA, International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations, and other forums. He earned degrees in Immunology and in Medicine at Edinburgh University, and he served as a hospital doctor in Britain’s National Health Service. He is also a former McKinsey consultant in corporate finance, and earned an MBA at Dartmouth. Dr. Ray is an Executive in Residence in bioethics at Columbia University, and a board member at the EveryLife Foundation for rare diseases.
