For over a decade Crystal Loucel has served as a bilingual and bicultural public health Latinx nurse within the San Francisco Bay Area. She obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing from UCSF and a Masters in Public Health from Loma Linda University. She previously served as the National Association of Hispanic Nurses’ (NAHN) San Francisco Chapter President for two years where she increased membership by 50%, increased the budget by 100%, and successfully co-led two Muevete Obesity-Prevention Program Grants reaching over 200 Latinx families in the Mission neighborhood. In 2013 and 2023 she received the NAHN Ambassador third place award for highest member recruitment. She was also recognized as one of the “40 Nurses under 40” within NAHN in 2023. 

In her current role, she works as a Cardiac Rehabilitation research nurse for the HEART-ACT study at UCSF focused on breast cancer survivors of color. She currently serves on the National Board of Directors of NAHN and Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Committee. In 2023, she was awarded a year-long fellowships both through Alliance of Nurses for a Healthy Environment and the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Nursing Issues (IRGNI) Emerging Diversity Leaders. Her research interests are behavior change, and the relationship between mental health cardiometabolic chronic disease management.
