Ebony Allen Toussaint is Gullah Geechee, and her professional expertise lies at the intersection of nursing and public health policy advocacy. She has committed herself to enhancing her skills in vaccination administration, infectious disease epidemiology and ecology, and evaluation of infection control program and policy operations through comprehensive work experience as well as graduate education in health policy, health services research, and nursing.
Dr. Toussaint has exceptional knowledge of the federal budget and appropriations process, especially pertaining to public health funding for infectious disease prevention, clinician workforce training, and biomedical research development. Her research focuses on biosocial methods to advance health equity including using both biophysical data and demographic data to examine susceptibility to vaccine preventable diseases. Her teaching focuses primarily on the American South including courses on (1) Gullah Geechee culture, (2) diseases and death, and (3) the history of health services.
