Glenn D. Steele Jr., M.D., Ph.D. serves as Chairman of xG Health Solutions, an independently operated venture launched by Geisinger Health System to help healthcare organizations create value and improve quality, leveraging Geisinger intellectual property and expertise on issues such as population-health data analytics, care management and health IT. Dr. Steele is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Geisinger Health System, an integrated health services organization in central and northeastern Pennsylvania nationally recognized for its innovative use of the electronic health record and the development and implementation of innovative care models.
Additionally, Dr. Steele serves as Vice Chair of Health Transformation Alliance (HTA). HTA is founded by ≈40 of America’s most successful corporations with a common goal to improve health care outcomes for their 6.5-7 million sponsored lives.
Prior to joining Geisinger Health System, he served as Richard T. Crane Professor in the Department of Surgery, University of Chicago, Vice President for Medical Affairs, and Dean of the Division of Biological Sciences and the Pritzker School of Medicine. Prior to that, he was the William V. McDermott Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, President and Chief Executive Officer of Deaconess Professional Practice Group and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at New England Deaconess Hospital.
Dr. Steele received his bachelor’s degree in history and literature from Harvard College and his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in surgery at the University of Colorado, where he was also a fellow of the American Cancer Society. He earned his Ph.D. in microbiology at Lund University in Sweden.
