Ian Hewer is the Program Director, and Assistant Professor of Nursing for the Western Carolina University School of Nursing Program in Nurse Anesthesia. He has held this position since June of 2018, but has been on faculty since September of 2011. Most of his professional career has been in clinical practice, during which he has worked in a variety of settings from urban, tertiary centers to small, rural hospitals. Since 2001, he has been in Asheville, North Carolina, where most of his clinical focus has been in cardiac anesthesia (2005-11). However, he has experience in all areas of anesthesia except transplant surgery. Dr. Hewer has wide-ranging interests, but most recently has focused his work on the characteristics and outcomes of varying anesthesia delivery models.
