Jessica Mittler (Ph.D., Harvard University) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Administration in the College of Health Professions at Virginia Commonwealth University. She studies patient-centered care and the transformation it requires for the U.S. health care system. She uses mixed methods approaches to understand and improve patient experiences, patient engagement, and collaboration among people and across sources of care. Her recently published research includes an examination of how high-quality patient-clinician relationships affect patient and provider outcomes (Social Science & Medicine, 2023), and a study of patient and provider expectations of health care relationships (PloS ONE, 2024).
